Abstract

This research aims to measure the effectiveness of students’ writing skill through the application of Facebook group in English learning. It employed a quantitative method using the pre-experimental design. The subject of the research was the second-semester students of one of the private universities in South Sulawesi, Indonesia in the academic year of 2017/2018. They were selected purposively due to the writing problems occurred in the class. The total number of the sample was 20 students, which were taken by census sampling technique. The instrument was a writing test to obtain data on the students’ writing achievement through the Facebook group. The data analysis found that the students’ mean score in English writing was significantly improved. The students’ mean score in the pretest was 65.30 while their mean score in the posttest was 78.05. The t-table was also lower than the t-test, that is 2.093<6.04. Based on the result the researchers concluded that the application of Facebook group in English learning improved students’ ability in writing.

Abstract

The production technology of packaging and other products based on plastic material is not as complicated as many people think. This research is a study to find the proper method to use in the design of packaging and plastics maker tools. The product is dedicated to (Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Indonesia to encourage them to produce products with attractive packaging. By the creation of this toolmaker is also expected to be potentially marketable for industrial development based on the use of materials from plastic. The literature study method is used to collect all pertinent information about appropriate methods, systems, and technical molding that can be used to form the basis of application of design materials. The methods can be applied to the design plan of packaging equipment and plastic products. This research is based the basic concepts of engineering principles of equipment consisting of heating and forming process using vacuum cleaner machine tool that is easily obtained and prepare the box facilities that can be obtained around our environment. In addition, by understanding the engineering principles of equipment, vacuum forming can be done. This research shows that using Thermoplastic can produce not only the packaging that is the specific purpose of this research activity, but also has the potential market space to produce a wide range of other creative products.

Abstract

Democracy as a concept of government became universal after the fall of the Berlin wall in 1989, the disbanding of the USSR in 1991, the crumple of communism and the end of the Cold War. Ever since then, this global phenomenon called democracy became the central and most preferred system of government worldwide. It has also been embraced in its entirety though in some cases modified based on the dominant/peculiar cultural and political structure of the people till this present day; except of course for a very few and negligible number of countries that have fervidly refused to embrace it as the best means of leading a people. This pervasive acceptance is predicated on two key elements- which are; globalization and the media. Though the concept of globalization is shrouded in strong arguments between a school of thought known as the skeptics and the other school of the argument known as the globalizers, McLuhan’s Global Village postulation unraveled this controversy by a simple analogy which links the media as the vehicle with which the concept was made popular and acceptable to the clinch of a large followership. In a symbiotic reward, the media was able to carry out its function of news dissemination in democracy, due to higher information technology occasioned by the consequences of globalization. Despite this advantage, the Nigeria democratic experience is one that has not been able to draw from the advantages herein. The country’s democracy is been overwhelmed by different challenges that has affected its emergence since the country attained independence in 1960. However, happening in the 2015 general elections portend a ray of hope for the growth of democracy in the country after which it can then shift its efforts to the consolidation of its democracy.

Abstract

This paper argues that globalization has been employed to serve the imperialistic interest of the western world. In her drive for hegemony, the west has constantly sought ways of bringing other societies nearer so that domination and exploitation could be total and permanent. Global homogenization is perhaps the most powerful force affecting the Africa landscape today. Global trends such as economic inequality, violent extremism, environmental hazards, changing nature of power are directly related to the practice of neocolonialism. Regrettably, this ongoing homogenization of ethos is more composed of the western liberal capitalism that is most aggressive in neo-colonial pursuits. It is continually shaping not only individuals but also the Africa continent. However, it has its own benefits. However, the negative sides of globalization as a set of policies have exacerbated existing injustice, inhumanity, created, and generated social, economic, political, and cultural inequalities, which should be address. The paper ends by making some recommendations and conclusion.
